LightMAT 2017 gives a deep insight into the basics, the specific requirements, how they can be met by each of the three modern light-weight materials, individually or in their combination in advanced multi-material design, including processing, joining and corrosion issues. Additionally, specific enabling technologies such as additive manufacturing will be highlighted.

Additive manufacturing - the industrial version of 3-D printing - is already used to make some items, such as medical implants, and to produce plastic prototypes for engineers and designers. The special topic shall give an overview of advances on 3-D printing of extremely sophisticated applications made of light alloys. Furthermore, the session shall figure out both the current and the future challenges and opportunities of this promising technology on its way out of today’s niche market.
Each submitted paper will be published in online proceedings. Additionally, excellent papers will be selected and published in SCI and EI journals.
